Profile

I have a passion and desire to create websites, the skills of which I have acquired in my own time. A self motivated IT professional with 20 years plus experience in the IT industry, working in roles from mainframe operator to applications developer. I have considerable experience at meeting deadlines, problem solving, updating and improving my IT skills and being employed in activities from support, system development to customer facing. In addition I have a proven ability to use my technical skills along side my artistic talent.

Selected Achievements

• Designed and built www.vintage-classics.co.uk website for a local business. The site uses HTML, CSS and PHP. All code was done by hand. This project obviously required understanding customer requirements and translating those into a web site. One of the requirements was good SEO. This site rates very high in Google for searches on classic car hire and vintage car hire.

• Designed and built www.belowthesalt.co.uk e-commerce website for local business. The site uses HTML, CSS, javascript plus integration with PayPal to enable online sales and ordering. All code created by hand. Another project which required understanding of the customers requirements, plus I have also passed on my knowledge so that the customer can update the site by himself.

• Designed and built www.thewiltshireartist.co.uk website. The site is a showcase for my web design and development skills. The site uses HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, Flash, Photoshop created images and a modified Wordpress blog.

• Designed and built www.artonthehoof.co.uk website. This is my own personal site, it is a show case for my drawings. This site uses HTML, CSS and some javascript. Again all code was done by hand.

• Designed and built an intranet for Pioneer Friendly Society (using MS IIS as the web server). The intranet also includes a system written in PHP and using MySQL, that allows users to log holidays and flexi time. All times and days are calculated via the system, users can see who is in or out during the current week and the next week. Also includes administration and manager functions.

• Designed and built as part of the Pioneer intranet, a simple Content Management System in PHP and MySQL that allows simple text updates to selected pages.

• As a volunteer and in my own free time, I did some beta testing for Osprey Publishing's new web site. (www.ospreypublishing.com)

Interests

Obviously an interest in web development and design, which I have acquired most of the skills in my own time and own expense. Another passion I have is drawing, specifically animals. I am also a ‘friend’ of the Society Of Equestrian Artists. I have won some local competitions with some of my drawings. Following on from the animal theme is horse riding. I help "share" a horse called "Raffles", this involves not just riding but yard work and his training. Plus I ride most weekends at a local riding centre.
