CSS Styles

This page is a demonstration of the flexibility and the fun of Cascading Style Sheets. The HTML for the page in the demo is the same for each page, but the page layout is controlled by a separate style sheet. Please note that these styles only apply to this page and not the whole site. The inspiration for this page comes from the fantastic Css Zen Garden.

Each style is "based" on a different era. One of my other favourite pastimes that I enjoy is horse riding. Therefore the topic for this page is horse riding. All the images are from my own reference library and have been manipulated to resemble images from the relevant period.

Horse riding is great fun, but I have found it is one of those things in life that you either love or hate. But once you get hooked, you better have deep pockets! We are lucky as we do what is called a "share". A "share" is an agreement between a horse owner and a non-horse owner to both look after the horse. So in our case, we are responsible for the horse on certain days. On those days we ensure he is fed and watered and that he is well. We can also ride him on those days, or do other training with him. The owner then gets days off, but still has the contact with the horse, unlike a "loan" (this is where the horse is rented out to another person).

So what kit is essential for horse riding?, well obviously a riding hat that complies to the relevant safety standards of your country. I`d never get on a horse without a riding hat, no matter how calm and well trained the horse is. Another item of safety kit that I wear is a "body protector" saves getting cracked ribs on the inevitable fall. Proper riding trousers, because the seems are in the correct place, either long boots or chaps, "saddle pinch" hurts! Gloves on cold days or if you have a horse that pulls a lot, saves getting blisters.
